TikTok username rules
- Up to 24 characters.
- Letters, numbers, underscores and periods only.
- A period cannot be the last character.
- Each username must be unique.
- You can change your username once every 30 days, so choose carefully.
Your username is different from your display name. The username is your @handle and appears in your profile link. The name is what shows in bold on your profile, and you can change it more often.
What makes a TikTok username work
- It passes the say-it-out-loud test. Creators often mention their handle in videos and live streams. If viewers cannot spell it after hearing it, you lose them.
- It is short. Short handles are easier to read in comments, duets and stitches.
- It hints at your content. "mikemoves" or "homeworkoutmike" tells people what to expect.
- It can grow with you. Avoid tying the name to a single trend or series you may stop making.
- It matches your other channels. Using the same handle on Instagram and YouTube makes you easier to find.
Tips when your favorite is taken
- Add a short word: "official", "tv", "hq", "daily" or your city.
- Use a period or an underscore between words, but only one.
- Flip the order: "fitwithmike" instead of "mikefit".
- Avoid random numbers. They make handles harder to remember and can look like spam or copycat accounts.
Stay safe and original
Do not use another creator's name or a brand you do not own. Accounts that impersonate others can be removed. Keep personal details such as your age, school or street out of a public handle.
