Short answer. Reddit's help center lists no price for its Data API. It offers "both free and paid access" and says select developers who need more than its default bulk limits "may be charged fees to lift those limits". Free access is capped at 100 queries per minute per OAuth client ID, and every API user needs Reddit's explicit approval. Any use of Reddit's developer services by or for a business is commercial and needs Reddit's permission, plus a contract if Reddit data powers your product. From 31 October 2026 Reddit accepts no new requests for public API access, and the remaining public access ends in March 2027. To see what Reddit users say about your brand, Reddit Pro's Trends tab is free for eligible businesses. The three most popular Reddit scrapers on Apify Store, plus Bright Data's, charge $1.49 to $4.00 per 1,000 items before plan discounts, but Reddit's rules list scraping without an authorized agreement among things that may violate them. We earn a commission if you buy Apify or Bright Data through our links; Reddit pays us nothing.

Everything below was read on 21 October 2026 on Reddit's help center, Apify's and Bright Data's own pages, MacRumors, the court docket and Google; totals are our arithmetic. Our research browser could not open reddit.com or redditinc.com, so Reddit's Data API Terms, User Agreement and subreddit announcements went unread; the dates come from Reddit's help-center changelog of 8 October 2026. We ran no paid scraper jobs, and listing these prices is not a recommendation to scrape Reddit.

What Reddit charges for API access
The Data API Wiki, updated 11 May 2026, sets the free-access limits:
- 100 queries per minute per OAuth client ID, averaged over a time window that is currently 10 minutes, so short bursts are allowed.
- Chat: 2,000 messages a day per recipient and 3,000 a day in total; bot accounts can join up to 300 chat rooms a day.
- No OAuth, no access: traffic that uses neither OAuth nor login credentials is blocked, and many default User-Agents, such as "Python/urllib", are drastically limited.
- Deletions: you must delete content that users delete from Reddit, and Reddit strongly recommends deleting stored user data and content within 48 hours.
The same wiki warns that some legacy API documentation may be out of date. Reddit's Responsible Builder Policy, updated 5 October 2026, says you must request access and get explicit approval before accessing any Reddit data through the API.
Reddit's "Developer Platform & Accessing Reddit Data" page gives no fee amount for broader access. The only per-request price we could trace to Reddit is from 2023: MacRumors reported on 31 May 2023 that Apollo's developer, Christian Selig, had been told Reddit planned to charge $12,000 for 50 million API requests, or $0.24 per 1,000, which put Apollo's 7 billion requests of the previous month at about $1.7 million a month. That figure is on no Reddit help page, so treat it as history, not a price you can buy at today.
Business use needs Reddit's permission, and often a contract
Reddit's definition is wide: commercial purposes include "any use of our services by a business or on behalf of a business or as part of a monetized product or service", from apps with ads to "services, research, or data access for fees". Commercial use of Reddit's developer tools needs Reddit's permission, and if Reddit data powers, augments or enhances a commercial product, Reddit will require a contract. The Responsible Builder Policy requires explicit written approval to use Reddit data for commercial purposes. Three more rules:
- No ads in an app, website or other service that displays Reddit content.
- No AI training on Reddit content without explicit consent from Reddit.
- Research only through Reddit for Researchers, open to accredited-university academics with ethics approval, for non-commercial work and up to a year (occasionally non-profit or government researchers). Reddit says using its APIs or unauthorized third-party tools for academic research violates its policies.
Reddit also licenses public content directly, mainly to companies that help brands monitor trends, to large language model makers and to researchers. Licensees cannot, for example, combine third-party data with Reddit content to "build customer data sets without Reddit or user consent".
The dates: 31 October 2026 to March 2027
Reddit's help-center changelog of 8 October 2026 says public Data API apps and bots are moving to its Developer Platform, Devvit, "as part of efforts to reduce scraping and automated abuse":
| Date | What changes |
|---|---|
| 31 October 2026 | New requests for public API access are no longer accepted |
| 13 November 2026 | Reddit stops supporting RSS feeds; outside communities you moderate there is no replacement |
| 31 December 2026 | Data API apps selected for Reddit's $1,000 migration bounty must have moved to Devvit |
| 12 January 2027 | Access removal begins for apps and users that have not registered or responded to Reddit's outreach |
| March 2027 | Remaining public API access ends (Reddit gives no day) |
The migration program pays $1,000 to selected developers of Data API apps that were on Reddit before 25 March 2026 and provide essential utility or moderation for communities with at least 1,000 weekly active users, or important tooling for Reddit users. Developers must register, be invited, pass App Review and migrate by 31 December 2026, so a new app does not qualify. The pages we read do not say whether Reddit will keep accepting commercial requests after 31 October, or what Devvit costs.
What Reddit scrapers charge per 1,000 items
Both vendors in this section pay us a commission. Apify's Store API returns 977 Actors for a "reddit" search on Apify Store; these are the three at the top of its popularity ranking, plus Bright Data's social media scraper, which covers Reddit posts and comments:
| Tool | Billed per | Free or entry rate per 1,000 | Lowest listed rate per 1,000 | Also charged |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reddit Scraper Lite (trudax), Apify | Result | $4.00 on Free, $3.80 on Starter | $3.40 on Business | $0.02 per GB at each start, $0.04 at its default 2 GB |
| Reddit Scraper (harshmaur), Apify | Result | $2.00 on Free, $1.80 on Starter | $1.50 on Business | $0.02 per start; $0.0005 per AI-analyzed result |
| Reddit Scraper Enterprise Grade (fatihtahta), Apify | Result | $1.49 on Free, $1.39 on Starter | $1.19 on Business | None listed |
| Social Media Scraper API, Bright Data | Record | 5,000 free a month for new accounts, then $1.50 | $1.30 on Scale ($499 a month, 384,000 included) | None listed; Bright Data calls the record price the whole bill |
All three Apify Actors list platform costs as included in the per-result price; Apify's docs add that reading or writing a dataset after a run incurs standard platform usage costs. Apify's plans: Free ($5 of usage), Starter ($19 a month, including $19 of usage and the Bronze Store discount), Scale ($199, Silver) and Business ($999, Gold), or 10% less billed annually. Bright Data gives every new account 5,000 free credits a month, one pool shared by five of its products, then bills your prepaid balance at pay-as-you-go rates.
A worked example at 30,000 items a month, on plans no larger than Starter:
- Reddit Scraper Lite on Apify Starter: 30,000 x $0.0038 = $114, plus $0.04 a run.
- Reddit Scraper (harshmaur) on Starter: $54, plus $0.02 a run.
- Reddit Scraper Enterprise Grade on Starter: $41.70.
- Bright Data pay as you go: $45, or $37.50 on a new account if no other product draws on its 5,000 free credits.
The Apify totals already include the $19 Starter fee, which comes with $19 of usage. An Apify result and a Bright Data record may not be the same unit, so check what one item contains. Apify's public counters show the three Actors ran 718,034 times in the 30 days to 21 October 2026, with 87.1% (Reddit Scraper Lite) to 98.0% of runs marked succeeded; the rest failed, timed out or were aborted. That shows they are in use, not that each run returned what its user wanted. Read Reddit's rules below first. If Reddit has authorized your use, Apify's Reddit scrapers and Bright Data are where these prices come from.

What Reddit's rules say about scraping
Reddit's Rule 8, "Don't break the site", updated 6 October 2026, lists among things that may violate it "Scraping Reddit or its services without an authorized agreement", accessing or collecting data from Reddit or its users without permission, and apps that "use automation for unsolicited outreach (e.g., unprompted DMs or Chat requests)". The Responsible Builder Policy adds that you "must not sell, license, share, or otherwise commercialize Reddit data without express written approval. This extends to commercial and non-commercial mining, scraping, or using data for purposes like ads targeting or to train machine learning or AI models." Reddit's Public Content Policy calls scraping a form of unauthorized access and says Reddit does not believe third parties have "a right to misuse public content just because it's public".
Reddit also litigates. Reddit, Inc. v. SerpApi LLC (S.D.N.Y., No. 1:25-cv-08736), filed on 22 October 2025 against SerpApi, Oxylabs, AWMProxy and Perplexity, gives section 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act as its cause on the docket; on 25 September 2026 Reddit moved to dismiss SerpApi's counterclaims. We read the docket, not the complaint. Perplexity's own API is priced in our Perplexity API pricing guide.
The vendors frame it differently. The Reddit Scraper Lite page on Apify Store, published under the trudax account, says scraping public Reddit data "is generally allowed" while telling users to comply with Reddit's terms, and lists "not requiring authentication, special authorization for commercial use" among its advantages over the official API. Its FAQ still describes Reddit "as of May 2023" with no login barrier and prefers residential proxies; Reddit's help center says requests from hosted providers' IP ranges need a valid OAuth token or a login. Bright Data says it collects "only publicly available data" and reviews every use case, and its price calculator says "Proxies, unblocking, parsing included". Neither is Reddit's approval, which its policies require. This is not legal advice; see is web scraping legal.
What Google's AI Overview gets wrong
On 21 October 2026, Google's AI Overview for "reddit api pricing" (US English) got the 100-queries-a-minute limit right but gave clients without OAuth 10 queries a minute (Reddit blocks that traffic), listed academic research as an allowed use (Reddit allows it only through Reddit for Researchers) and described "roughly $12,000 per month for 50 million calls" (the 2023 report was $12,000 for 50 million requests, not a monthly package). Even expanded, it never mentioned the 31 October cutoff.
Which route fits which job
- Watching what Reddit users say about your brand: Reddit Pro, free for eligible businesses and organizations (beta, English-speaking countries). Its Trends tab shows the posts, comments and communities mentioning a keyword; we saw no mention of an export. Where your brand comes up on Reddit is one input to AI search optimization, and this is the free place to start.
- A moderation bot or community app: build on Devvit (in beta), which includes app hosting and Redis storage; existing Data API apps that qualify for the migration program may get $1,000.
- Academic research: Reddit for Researchers; Reddit authorizes no other route.
- A product, client report or AI feature built on Reddit data: commercial. Contact Reddit for permission and a contract; Reddit's help center lists no self-serve price.
- Bulk public data: ask Reddit first; it licenses public content, including to brand-monitoring companies. Scraper tools charge the prices above, but Reddit's policies require its express written approval to commercialize Reddit data, scraping included, and Reddit sued SerpApi, Oxylabs, AWMProxy and Perplexity in October 2025.
- Lead generation: Reddit Pro's Trends tab finds conversations that mention your keywords for free. Rule 8 lists automated unsolicited outreach, such as unprompted DMs, among things that may violate it, and Reddit bars matching its users to off-platform identifiers.
If you want a monitoring pipeline built on routes Reddit permits, our AI automation agency team can scope it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Partly. Reddit offers free and paid access: free access is rate-limited to 100 queries per minute per OAuth client ID, every API user needs Reddit's explicit approval, and select developers who need broader access may be charged fees. Commercial use needs Reddit's permission and, if Reddit data powers your product, a contract. From 31 October 2026 Reddit accepts no new requests for public API access, and the remaining public access ends in March 2027.
Reddit's help center lists no price. Commercial use needs Reddit's permission and, if Reddit data powers your product, a contract; Reddit says select developers who need broader access may be charged fees. The only per-request figure we could trace is from 2023, when MacRumors reported that Apollo's developer had been told Reddit planned to charge $12,000 for 50 million requests, or $0.24 per 1,000. We found it on no Reddit help page, so it is not a price you can rely on today.
Not to the public API: Reddit's changelog says new requests for public API access will no longer be accepted from 31 October 2026, and remaining public access ends in March 2027. The other routes are building on Reddit's Developer Platform (Devvit), Reddit for Researchers for academics, and a commercial agreement through Reddit's contact form. The pages we read do not say whether new commercial requests will still be accepted.
For free access, 100 queries per minute per OAuth client ID, averaged over a window that is currently 10 minutes. Chat is capped at 2,000 messages a day per recipient and 3,000 a day in total, and bot accounts can join up to 300 chat rooms a day. Traffic without OAuth or login credentials is blocked.
This is not legal advice, and we could not read Reddit's User Agreement or Data API Terms. Reddit's own rules list scraping without an authorized agreement among things that may violate them, its Responsible Builder Policy requires express written approval to commercialize Reddit data, and Reddit sued SerpApi, Oxylabs, AWMProxy and Perplexity in federal court in New York in October 2025. The Reddit Scraper Lite page on Apify Store says scraping public Reddit data is generally allowed and tells users to comply with Reddit's terms, and Bright Data says it collects only publicly available data; neither is Reddit's approval.
Reddit Pro, which is free for eligible businesses and organizations in English-speaking countries. Its Trends tab tracks keywords and shows the posts, comments and communities mentioning them. The three most popular Apify Reddit scrapers list $1.19 to $4.00 per 1,000 results and Bright Data $1.30 to $1.50 per 1,000 records; the low ends need $999 and $499 monthly plans, and Reddit's rules list scraping without an authorized agreement as a possible violation.
