Kit vs Mailchimp (2026): Pricing, Send Limits and Who Wins

Quick answer: Kit vs Mailchimp splits by who you are. Kit is the better platform for a creator or newsletter business: 10,000 subscribers free, unlimited sends on every plan, and automations included from the $33 a month Creator plan. Mailchimp is the better platform for a small business or ecommerce store that wants a marketing suite with SMS, a large integration directory and phone support at the top tier: it is free only to 250 contacts, meters email sends as a multiple of contacts, and starts paid plans at $13 (Essentials) and $20 (Standard) a month for up to 500 contacts. Free plans: 10,000 subscribers versus 250 contacts

This is the widest gap between any two tools in the category. Kit Free allows up to 10,000 subscribers, unlimited broadcasts, unlimited landing pages and forms, tagging and segmentation, and commerce, with one user, email support, and no automations or sequences. Mailchimp Free allows 250 contacts, a maximum of 500 sends a month or 250 a day, 1 seat, 1 audience, limited templates, no scheduling, Mailchimp branding, and email support for the first 30 days only. A newsletter with 2,000 readers is free on Kit and a paid Standard customer at Mailchimp.

Paid plans and what they meter

• Kit Creator, $33 a month billed yearly for 1,000 subscribers (about $39 month to month): unlimited Visual Automations and sequences, unlimited sends, integrations, SMS, remove branding, 2 users, 24/7 email and chat support. Kit Pro, $66 billed yearly: adds Subscriber Signals, deliverability reporting, unlimited users, advanced A/B testing and a free SparkLoop plan.
• Mailchimp Essentials, from $13 a month for up to 500 contacts: sends capped at 10 times your contact count, 3 seats, 3 audiences, automation flows limited to 4 steps, scheduling, branding removal, 24/7 email and chat. Standard, from $20 a month for up to 500 contacts: 12 times sends, 5 seats, up to 200 automation flows, generative AI, custom coded templates, one onboarding session. Premium, from $350 a month: 15 times sends, unlimited seats and audiences, phone and priority support, 4 onboarding sessions.

The structural difference is the send meter. Kit does not count sends on any plan. Mailchimp caps monthly sends at 10, 12 or 15 times contacts and bills overages automatically if you exceed the contact or send limit, per its FAQ. A daily newsletter to 1,000 contacts is 30,000 sends a month, which exceeds Standard's 12,000 at that tier. Mailchimp's prices also step up through 20 contact tiers from 500 to over a million, with a 15 percent discount for 12 months on plans of 10,000 plus contacts; the $13 and $20 figures are the bottom rung.

Automation: unlimited versus stepped

Kit's Visual Automations are unlimited on Creator and Pro, with a template library, tag, form, purchase and date triggers, split paths and integrated triggers from tools like Thinkific and Calendly. Mailchimp's Marketing Automation Flows, the renamed Customer Journey Builder, are limited to 4 flow steps on Essentials and up to 200 flows on Standard and Premium. If your business runs on welcome, launch and nurture sequences, Kit's entry paid plan is the more complete one; Mailchimp requires Standard for anything beyond a short welcome flow.

Commerce, SMS and AI

Kit sells digital products, subscriptions, paid newsletters and tip jars natively at 3.5 percent plus 30 cents per transaction, keeps 23.5 percent on Paid Recommendations, and offers a newsletter sponsorship marketplace from Creator. Mailchimp does not sell your products but connects to Shopify, WooCommerce and 300 plus integrations, offers SMS and MMS as a paid credit add on in select countries, and includes generative AI features on Standard and Premium. If you sell your own knowledge to your list, Kit's stack is built for it. If you sell physical goods through a store and want SMS in the same tool, Mailchimp's is.

Support, migration and trials

• Trials: Kit gives 14 days on Creator or Pro with no card. Mailchimp gives 14 days on Essentials or Standard with no card, but limits you to 100 emails until you add a card, and offers a 1 month Premium trial through sales.
• Migration: Kit includes a free migration by its own team on paid plans. Mailchimp offers Premium migration services through sales for new Premium customers.
• Support: Kit is email on Free, 24/7 chat and email on Creator, priority on Pro. Mailchimp is 30 days of email on Free, 24/7 email and chat on Essentials and Standard, and phone only on Premium at $350.
• Discounts: Kit takes 17 percent off yearly. Mailchimp takes 15 percent off for 12 months on 10,000 plus contacts and 15 percent for nonprofits.

Which one to choose

• Choose Kit if you are a creator, author, coach or newsletter writer, you send often, you sell your own products, and you want automations without paying for the second tier. The 10,000 subscriber free plan alone decides it for most newsletters.
• Choose Mailchimp if you run a store or a local business, you want SMS in the same tool, you need a large integration directory, or your team wants phone support and onboarding sessions and can pay Premium prices.

For the price of Mailchimp's Standard plan at a couple of thousand contacts, Kit's Creator plan gives a creator unlimited sends and unlimited automations. Seats, audiences and admin controls

Mailchimp's plan table is organised around team size. Free has 1 seat and 1 audience, Essentials 3 seats and 3 audiences with 2 roles, Standard 5 seats and 5 audiences with 4 roles, and Premium unlimited seats and audiences with 5 roles. Kit's table has one user on Free, two on Creator and unlimited on Pro, and it organises everything else around tags and segments inside a single account rather than separate audiences. For an agency managing several client lists, Mailchimp's audiences and role based access are the more natural structure; for a creator with one list and one assistant, Kit's two user Creator plan is enough. Mailchimp also sells a pay as you go option, buying email credits instead of a subscription, for infrequent senders, which Kit does not offer.

Forms, landing pages and the fine print

Both platforms include landing pages and forms. Kit's are unlimited on every tier including Free, with templates and a customizable domain. Mailchimp includes popup forms on every plan, but its own disclaimer marks the popup forms feature as beta with very limited availability to new and existing users and web browsers only, and says it should not be relied on in a purchasing decision. Mailchimp's page also carries a long list of numbered disclaimers behind its headline claims, including that its number one platform claim is based on customer counts from public data and that SMS is available only in select countries after an application. Kit's pricing page carries no such disclaimers, though its comparison pages make claims about rivals, including a 99.8 percent delivery rate, that are its own figures.
