Google Ads in AI Mode Reach 10 More Countries; UK Planned Q4

November 2, 2026. Google is bringing ads to AI Mode in ten more countries. In a post dated 28 October 2026, Shashi Thakur, Google's VP and GM for Google Search Ads and Ads on Google Experiences, wrote that the company is "scaling ads in AI Mode in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore," with Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom among the "additional locales" planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. In the United States, Google is "launching multiturn ads," so a sponsored result can appear in a follow-up question, not only the first. Two research claims in the post explain why advertisers are likely to follow: AI Mode queries "are, on average, three times longer than traditional searches," and "click-through rates are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode." For a business that has worked to be cited in AI answers, the consequence is that paid placements now share the AI Mode surface with earned citations in each of these markets. Here is what was announced and how it changes the organic math.

What Google said on 28 October

The announcement on Google's Ads and Commerce blog is short. The expansion list is the operative sentence: "Now we're scaling ads in AI Mode in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore. In Q4 2026, we plan to expand to additional locales, including Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom."

The product change for the US is separate: "To allow ads in follow-up queries in AI Mode, we are launching multiturn ads in the U.S. Ads will be clearly labeled as 'Sponsored.' We'll continue testing new formats to ensure ads remain helpful and relevant."

The justification is two research claims, each footnoted; the footnotes were collapsed and we could not read them. The first: "In AI Mode, queries are, on average, three times longer than traditional searches." The second: "Our research shows that people are comfortable with ads in AI Mode and find them highly relevant. In fact, click-through rates are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode." Note the scope of that second claim. It compares sponsored and organic "product list items," a term the post does not define but which reads as product listings rather than the text citations a service business earns in an answer.

Four of the ten are markets we sell into most: Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore. Pakistan, where imisofts is based, is on the list too. The United Arab Emirates is not named in either group, and the post does not say when or whether it follows.

What changes for a business that earns citations

AI Mode answers are the surface where answer engine optimization pays off: a page gets named inside the response rather than ranked under it. We cover the difference between being cited and being ranked in AEO vs SEO, and how an incorrect answer gets reported in how to correct an AI Overview. Ads in that surface change three things:

  1. The surface has paid placements. In the ten countries, an ad can appear in the same AI Mode surface where you are cited; Google says its US multiturn ads are labeled "Sponsored". Google's own claim that sponsored and organic product list items draw similar click-through rates means the paid placement is not decoration; it competes for the click.
  2. Longer queries favor specific pages. If AI Mode queries run three times longer than traditional searches, they carry more qualifiers: a service, a city, a price ceiling, a compliance need. In our experience, pages built around one specific question are the ones an engine matches to that kind of prompt, and generic service pages are not.
  3. Follow-ups are now inventory. Multiturn ads mean the second and third questions in a US session can carry ads too. A business that only tries to be cited on the opening question is leaving the comparison and the "how much does it cost" turns to advertisers.

What to do in the ten markets

  1. Check your citations before the ads arrive in volume. If Search Console shows you a report on generative AI features, record a baseline now, so you can see whether paid placements move your numbers.
  2. Write the follow-up pages. In our experience, for each service the second question is usually price and the third is "is it legal" or "does it work with X." Each needs a page with a dated number in the first paragraph.
  3. Decide whether to pay to appear where you are already cited. If your page is cited in an answer, a competitor's ad in the same surface is the risk; your own ad is the insurance. Google's post does not say how advertisers opt in, bid or pay for AI Mode placements, so check your Search campaign settings and your Google contact before assuming anything.
  4. Treat Pakistan and Singapore as live markets, not pilots. Both are in the scaling list today.

If you want your service pages to be the ones AI Mode names when a buyer asks a long, specific question, our AI search optimization service works to get you cited for exactly those queries. Frequently Asked Questions

Google's 28 October 2026 post says it is scaling ads in AI Mode in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore, and plans to expand in Q4 2026 to additional locales including Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Ads that can appear in follow-up queries within an AI Mode session, not only the first question. Google says it is launching them in the United States and that the ads will be clearly labeled as Sponsored.

Google says AI Mode queries are, on average, three times longer than traditional searches. The post footnotes the figure; we could not read the footnote.

Google says click-through rates are already similar between sponsored and organic product list items within AI Mode. That claim covers product list items, a term the post does not define but which reads as product listings, rather than the text citations a service business earns.

Not in this announcement. The United Arab Emirates is not named in the list of ten countries or in the Q4 2026 additions, and the post does not give a date for it.

The post does not say citations change. What changes is that ads can appear in AI Mode in these markets, so an earned citation shares the surface with paid placements that compete for the click.
