Google Ads AI Labels: California, South Korea, Vietnam Added

November 6, 2026. Google Ads now shows a visible AI label overlay on ads that target California, South Korea or Vietnam when an asset in the ad is designated as created or edited with AI. Search Engine Roundtable reported on November 5 that Google added those three to a list that already held the European Union, India and New York. Google can also apply the label itself, and those labels "cannot be overwritten," so we would check what is labelled before ads run in any of these six places.

What Google's help pages say

  1. Six places get a visible overlay. Google's Ads help page says: "For campaigns that target the following locations, ads with assets that you designate as AI created or edited will also include visible overlays on the ads": the European Union, India, New York, California, South Korea and Vietnam.
  2. Everywhere, the disclosure sits in the ad's menu. Labelled ads carry a disclosure in the "How this ad was made" section of the My Ad Center panel, reached from the three-dot menu on ads across Search, YouTube and Discover, which Google says "will be accessible globally."
  3. Google labels some assets for you. It may label "in regions where Google itself is legally required to do so, or when we get signals to do so from other platforms," and assets from its "fully-automated features" may be labelled on your behalf. "In any of these cases, labels cannot be overwritten."
  4. Merchant Center is included. The Merchant Center version lists the same six places and warns that "Labeling with this feature might impact whether this content appears on some experiences." Its product data specification, read on November 6, says AI rules in those places "require that ads with certain AI-generated or edited assets include disclosures and/or labels."
  5. Google's own AI tools mark their output. Images and videos generated within Google Ads tools carry SynthID watermarks and C2PA markup.

Google does not name the laws behind each region, and it says its label setting "doesn't guarantee your compliance with specific regulations."

What it means for operators

Our suggestions, built on Google's help pages:

  • Find what is already labelled. Add the "AI label" status column to the Asset library or asset reporting, then use the asset filter for "AI label". For existing campaigns, Google's path is Tools, Asset studio, Asset library, then "Label this asset as created or edited with AI" or "Don't label this asset."
  • Do not skip the prompt. Google shows a "Review assets" prompt when a campaign's ads "may require an AI label." Decide per asset and record why.
  • Check product images. Stores that edit product photos with AI tools can set the label under Manage images in Merchant Center, and the same option appears in Product Studio. Weigh Google's warning that a label may affect where the content appears.
  • Your own label is allowed. Google says self-applied AI labels "won't be in violation of Google policies prohibiting text overlays and watermarks." Keep them away from the corners and edges, and opt out of image enhancements, which "can crop your label."
  • Ask a lawyer about the rule, not the setting. Google's own framing is that "Laws in some regions may require you to label ads that use certain assets created or edited with AI," and it tells advertisers to "Seek legal guidance." This is general information, not legal advice.

If you run client ads from a white-label GoHighLevel SaaS, add an AI label check to each client's launch checklist for these six places. If your creative runs through an automated workflow, a step that records which assets were made or edited with AI leaves a record behind each label decision; our AI automation agency team builds workflows of this kind.
