October 8, 2026. Claude Max and Team subscriptions now include a monthly credit for the Claude API: $100 on Max 5x, $200 on Max 20x, and $20 per Standard or $100 per Premium Team seat, pooled and capped at $500 a month. On both Max plans the credit equals the subscription price. It covers the Claude API, Claude Managed Agents, the Claude Agent SDK and the Console playground, but not Claude Code, and unused credit expires each billing cycle, according to Anthropic's documentation. Anthropic announced it with Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7 and is rolling it out this week.

What each plan gets
- Max 5x ($100 a month): $100 in API credit every billing cycle.
- Max 20x ($200 a month): $200.
- Team: $20 for each Standard seat and $100 for each Premium seat, the same as each seat's annual-billing price, pooled into one balance and capped at $500. Anthropic's example: three Standard and two Premium seats receive $260 a month. Nonprofit and Scientists Team plans earn the same.
- Not eligible: Free, Pro and Enterprise plans.
- Not covered: Claude Code, extra usage in the Claude apps, and Claude on Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry.
MIXED reported the same amounts and exclusions, and Anthropic's Help Center article matches the docs.

The fine print that decides its value
New subscribers can claim after seven days on an eligible plan. Each plan links to one Console organization and you cannot change that link yourself, so pick the organization you will actually build in. Included credit is spent before any credit you have bought, and auto-reload watches only the bought balance. Nothing rolls over. When the included credit runs out and no bought credit remains, API requests stop until next month's credit arrives; usage is never charged to the Claude subscription. Every API key and workspace in the linked organization draws from the same balance, so give each project its own workspace with a spend limit. Linked organizations move to at least Anthropic's Start usage tier, or its Build tier when the monthly credit is over $200, but the credit does not count toward higher tiers.
What $100 to $500 a month actually runs
At list prices, a call or ticket summary with 3,000 tokens in and 300 out costs about $0.00045 on Claude Haiku 5.5 and $0.009 on Sonnet 5.5. So $100 covers roughly 222,000 summaries on Haiku 5.5 or 11,100 on Sonnet 5.5, and a full $500 Team pool five times that. For a home-services company that records every after-hours call, a Max 5x credit pays to summarize and tag every one of them many times over, the back-office half of the after-hours call answering we set up for HVAC and plumbing firms.
What it means for operators
For a small agency on Claude Team, the credit turns the subscription into a funded sandbox for internal tools: lead routing, reply classification, CRM clean-up and proposal first drafts. Anthropic frames it as money to build and run your own apps and agents. Keep client production traffic out of it: a client's workload in your linked organization would drain the pool and stop your own tools when it runs dry, so give each client its own organization and billing. Usage paid with the credit still counts toward the organization's monthly spend cap, which resets on the first of each calendar month, while the credit refreshes on your billing date.
How to claim the credit
- On claude.ai, open Settings, then Billing on a Max plan, or Organization settings, then Billing on a Team plan. You need to be the Max subscriber or a Team Primary Owner or Owner, and an Owner, Admin or Billing member of the Console organization.
- In the API credits section, choose the Console organization and accept the program terms by linking it.
- Find the credit in the Console under Settings, Billing, Promotional credits, then create an API key.
Startups have a separate route: Claude for Startups gives approved founders a one-time $1,000 API credit. If you want the first agent built for you, our AI engineers can do it.
