Pipedrive Bought Its Best Marketplace App. Read the Line About HubSpot and Copper.

August 11, 2026. Pipedrive announced on August 5 that it has acquired Outfunnel, the Estonian sales and marketing automation startup that was the highest rated app on the Pipedrive Marketplace. Financial terms were not disclosed. Every write up ran the same headline, that a CRM bought its best integration. The sentence worth reading sits further down, in the boilerplate, and it names two other CRMs.

What Pipedrive actually announced

  1. The acquisition is dated August 5, 2026 in Pipedrive's announcement, and financial terms were not disclosed.
  2. Outfunnel serves more than 500 businesses, syncing customer data in real time between Pipedrive and marketing tools including Mailchimp and Klaviyo.
  3. Four Outfunnel team members join Pipedrive as full time employees. Co-founder Andrus Purde returns as a consultant. He was Pipedrive's Head of Marketing in the company's early days, and his brother Urmas was one of Pipedrive's five founders.
  4. Outfunnel keeps operating during a transition period with, in Pipedrive's words, no disruption to existing customers. Pipedrive plans to rebuild the platform's core capabilities natively over the coming months.

The line every report skipped

The About Outfunnel paragraph at the foot of the release states that the company has worked with CRMs including Pipedrive, HubSpot, and Copper. For a meaningful share of those 500 businesses, that is the whole story. The continuity promise in the release is scoped to a transition period with no published end date, and the rebuild plan is scoped to a single word: natively. Native means inside Pipedrive.

Read plainly, the announcement says nothing at all about an Outfunnel customer whose CRM is HubSpot or Copper. It does not say support ends. It also does not say support continues, and a rebuild inside a competing CRM is not a destination their data can follow. If that describes your stack, the move is not to panic. It is to ask for a date in writing, because the release did not give one.

Four people, 500 businesses, one exit

The numbers in the boilerplate deserve to sit side by side. Outfunnel was founded in Estonia in 2018, raised a 2.4 million dollar pre-seed led by SquareOne VC and byFounders, built the highest rated app in the marketplace of a CRM used by more than 105,000 companies across 180 countries, and reached this point with four employees.

For anyone building on somebody else's platform, that is the realistic shape of the outcome rather than a disappointment. You can be the best reviewed app in a marketplace and still be a four person company, and the buyer most likely to want you is the platform whose gap you filled. Founders we work with on launching a SaaS should price that in from the first week. Build what the platform has not built, and accept that succeeding at it makes you a target for the platform itself.

Pipedrive's own research, published a day earlier

On August 4, one day before the acquisition, Pipedrive published its CRM Trends Report 2026, a national online survey of 1,000 US sales and marketing professionals conducted in June 2026. What it chose to lead with explains the purchase better than the acquisition release does.

Only 11 percent of sales professionals count closing deals among their most frequent weekly activities, against 38 percent who spend most of their time logging calls, emails and meetings. Forty two percent say non revenue generating tasks consume at least 40 percent of the day. Seventy nine percent switch between multiple tools to get a complete view of an account, and for 62 percent of teams that fragmentation costs a missed deal or action every week. Automated data entry was the single most requested AI capability at 15 percent, and 14 percent of professionals whose CRM already includes AI never use it, split between 8 percent who do not know the features exist and 6 percent who choose not to.

One further number from the same report is the one to write down if you sell anything. Email marketing was named the single largest source of inbound leads at 22 percent, ahead of organic social at 15 percent, referrals at 13 percent, paid advertising at 13 percent and events at 9 percent. Two years of agent announcements have not reordered that list, which is why cold email and lead generation still carry the pipeline for most of the businesses we work with.

Klaviyo did the same thing on the same day

Klaviyo announced on August 5 that it has agreed to acquire the team and technology of Agency, an AI native customer success company founded by Elias Torres, who co-founded Drift and who hired Klaviyo co-founder Andrew Bialecki as one of his first engineers at Performable. Torres becomes Chief Product Officer and will lead Klaviyo's agent product line, Composer and Customer Agent. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, so it has not closed yet.

The detail that ties the two deals together is in Pipedrive's own release. Klaviyo is one of the two marketing platforms named as an Outfunnel sync destination. On a single day, the CRM bought the pipe and the platform at the far end of that pipe bought the agent layer. Klaviyo states that its data infrastructure holds more than nine billion consumer profiles and ingests and indexes more than a quarter of a trillion data points every quarter, across more than 205,000 paying customers and more than 350 integrations. This consolidation is not happening at the edges of the stack. It is happening at the joins.

What it means for operators

Three practical conclusions, none of which require you to change tools this week.

First, treat every marketplace integration in a client stack as a vendor with a roadmap you do not control. Write down which connectors carry data you could not rebuild by hand in a day, and for each one note who owns it and whether that owner competes with the platform it plugs into. The list is short and you only make it once.

Second, when a connector is acquired, the question is never whether the product still works. It works. The question is which of its supported platforms appears in the acquirer's rebuild plan, because that sentence is the roadmap, and everything absent from it is a transition period.

Third, the reason both deals happened is the same reason your team complains about the CRM. Nobody wants to buy a sync tool. They want to stop copying records between two systems that disagree. That is worth solving properly with AI automation that owns the field mapping and the failure cases, rather than with a chain of integrations, each of which can be bought.

Limits worth printing. Terms of the Pipedrive deal were not disclosed. The Klaviyo transaction has not closed. And the survey quoted above is vendor research on 1,000 self reporting US respondents, published by a company that sells the fix. None of that makes the numbers wrong. It does mean you should read them as direction rather than measurement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pipedrive acquired Outfunnel, an Estonian sales and marketing automation startup founded in 2018 and the highest rated app on the Pipedrive Marketplace. Outfunnel syncs customer data in real time between CRMs and marketing platforms such as Mailchimp and Klaviyo, and serves more than 500 businesses. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The announcement does not say. It states that Outfunnel will keep operating during a transition period with no disruption to existing customers, and that Pipedrive plans to rebuild the core capabilities natively, meaning inside Pipedrive. Outfunnel's own boilerplate names HubSpot and Copper as CRMs it has worked with. No end date for the transition period was published, so customers on those CRMs should ask Pipedrive directly for one in writing.

Pipedrive did not disclose financial terms. For context, Outfunnel had raised a 2.4 million dollar pre-seed round led by SquareOne VC and byFounders and had four team members at the time of the acquisition, all of whom join Pipedrive as full time employees.

Klaviyo has agreed to acquire the team and proprietary software of Agency, an AI native customer success company led by co-founder and CEO Elias Torres. Torres will become Chief Product Officer and lead Klaviyo's agent product line, which includes Composer and Customer Agent. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026 and had not closed as of publication.

It reports that only 11 percent of sales professionals count closing deals among their most frequent weekly activities, against 38 percent who spend most of their time logging calls, emails and meetings, and that 42 percent say non revenue generating tasks take at least 40 percent of the day. It is a national online survey of 1,000 US sales and marketing professionals conducted in June 2026 and published by Pipedrive, which sells CRM software.

No, but they should map them. The practical step is to list every connector in a client stack that carries data you could not rebuild by hand in a day, then record who owns it and whether that owner competes with the platform it plugs into. Acquisitions of marketplace apps rarely break the product immediately. What changes is which supported platforms stay on the roadmap.
