Competitor Price Monitoring Cost in 2026: 9 Tools, 4 Billing Units

The short answer

If you sell a catalogue, a dedicated price monitoring tool is the cheapest honest answer: Pricefy publishes $49 a month for 100 SKUs and $99 for 2,000, and Prisync publishes $99 a month for 100 products with unlimited competitors. If you only want to watch a handful of rival pricing pages, changedetection.io charges $8.99 a month for up to 5,000 URL watches. If you need something custom, scraping the pages yourself on Apify costs single digit dollars of compute per 100,000 pages, plus proxy, plus your own engineering time.

Those numbers look impossibly far apart because they are not measuring the same thing. This market bills in four different units, and the unit, not the tier you pick, decides your invoice once your catalogue grows. Every figure below is read from the vendor's own pricing page this week; where a vendor publishes no price, that is recorded as a finding rather than filled in with a guess.

Four tools, four billing units

  • Per product you own, competitors unlimited. Prisync's cards read "Up to 100 Products" next to "Unlimited Competitors!". Pricefy uses the same shape. Adding a sixth rival to a product costs nothing on either.
  • Per monitored product URL. Price2Spy's FAQ is explicit: plans "have been created based on the monitored number of URLs ... not the number of competitors." Your page and each rival's page for the same item are separate billable URLs.
  • Per check. Visualping sells a monthly check allowance with a page ceiling stacked on top. Free is 150 checks across 5 pages; Personal 10K is $70 a month for 10,000 checks across 40 pages.
  • Per page fetched. Apify and any do it yourself stack bill compute and bandwidth, with no concept of a product.

Five hundred products against five competitors is 500 billable units on the first model and roughly 2,500 to 3,000 on the second. Same catalogue, same work, and neither vendor puts that comparison on its own site. One wording trap before you sign: Prisync's pricing page counts "Products" while its own help centre calls the identical limit "SKUs". If you sell variants, ask which one your contract means.

500 products, 5 competitors, checked daily

The same job, priced six ways on published rates.

  • Pricefy Pro, $99 a month ($74 billed annually). Five hundred SKUs sits inside the "Up to 2,000 SKUs" tier, competitors unlimited, twice daily updates.
  • Prisync Premium, URL based, $199 a month. Five hundred sits inside "Up to 1000 Products", competitors unlimited, updated "3 Times a Day". Its API is a paid extra at "an extra 20% on top of your monthly subscription fee".
  • Price2Spy: no published price. Roughly 2,500 to 3,000 monitored URLs on its unit, and its pricing page now says "PRICE UPON REQUEST".
  • Visualping: not purchasable in this shape. Twenty five hundred pages is five times the 500 page ceiling on its largest published plan, $350 a month.
  • changedetection.io, $8.99 a month. Twenty five hundred watches fits inside its 5,000 URL allowance. The catch is real: you get a diff of what changed, not a price field matched to your SKU. You do the parsing and the matching.
  • Apify, roughly $5 to $50 of compute. Twenty five hundred pages a day is 75,000 fetches a month. Apify publishes averages of 3,000 pages per compute unit for plain HTTP and 300 when a real browser is needed, at $0.2 per compute unit on Free and Starter. That is about 25 units, or $5, for plain HTTP, and about 250 units, or $50, with a browser. Proxy is extra.

The arithmetic in that last line is ours, built from two figures Apify publishes. Apify publishes no cost per thousand pages itself, and says so plainly: "The easiest way to find out the platform usage of an Actor is to perform a test run."

The check frequency you are sold is a ceiling

Visualping's Personal 10K plan advertises a maximum frequency of "Every 2 min" and includes 10,000 monthly checks. A single page checked every two minutes consumes 720 checks a day. So one page at the advertised maximum exhausts the entire monthly allowance of a $70 plan in under fourteen days. The frequency figure is a per job ceiling; the check allowance is what you actually buy. At low cadence the opposite holds: 40 pages checked once a day is 1,200 checks a month, well inside 10,000, so the page limit binds instead. Work out which of the two binds for your cadence before comparing plans, because vendors price them as one number.

Two more quirks. On Pricefy, frequency stops improving above the entry tier: the $499 Enterprise plan checks twice a day, exactly like the $49 Starter. On Prisync, frequency is set by which product you bought rather than which tier, with URL based monitoring updating three times a day and channel based products daily.

The do it yourself route, and what Apify costs

If your target pages are awkward, or the data has to land in your own systems, you scrape them yourself. Apify is the usual home for this because the scheduling, alerting and hosting are already built.

Published plans are Free at $0 with $5 of included usage, Starter at $19 a month, Scale at $199 and Business at $999, with 10% off billed annually. The mechanic that matters is that the monthly fee is your usage credit: the pricing table labels that row "Prepaid usage", and "unused usage credits are not rolled over to the next billing cycle". Overspend is not blocked on a paid plan, it is added to your next invoice, so a Starter month costs $19 or your actual usage, whichever is higher.

Three things make it workable as a monitor rather than a one off scrape. Scheduling is built in: full cron expressions, 100 schedules per user on every plan including Free, 10 Actors per schedule. Alerting is free, in Apify's words "The monitoring system is free for all users" and it "does not use any additional resources on top of your usage", by email, Slack or console, and one alert type watches dataset field statistics, which Apify's own documentation illustrates with price tracking across multiple sources. Webhooks push the change onward, 100 per user on all plans.

Some ready made tools price the job per page directly. Apify's own e-commerce scraping tool charges $0.00042 per listing page on Starter, with the worked example: "If you scrape 5,000 listing pages from a batch of category URLs, the additional fee would be $2.10."

One timing note. Apify is retiring its monthly rental pricing model: new rental listings stopped on April 1, and its docs say that on "October 1 - Rental Actors are fully retired. All remaining Actors are migrated to pay-per-usage pricing." If you budgeted around a fixed monthly rental, that line is about to become usage based. Check the current plan rates on Apify before you model anything.

Half this category will not tell you the price

There is an irony the buying guides never mention: roughly half of the price monitoring companies do not publish their own prices. Price2Spy used to publish a public ladder and no longer does; its Premium button now reads "PRICE UPON REQUEST". Wiser and Minderest have no pricing page at all, and no Pricing entry in the navigation. Competera heads its pricing page "Request a custom quote". Dealavo is blunt: "We don't publish a price list." Skuuudle subtitles its pricing page "A pricing company with no pricing page?" and offers only a budget range spanning three currencies.

Intelligence Node is the one quote only vendor that publishes a floor, and it is the most useful number here: "The minimum project size starts at $5k per month", on a minimum term of one year. That floor marks where the category stops being software you buy and becomes a procurement process. Below it sit self serve tools with published ladders; above it, enterprise deals scoped by SKU count, competitor count and modules.

The line item nobody prices: pages that block you

Every tool here works until a retailer decides it does not want to be measured, and that is where budgets break. Price2Spy is the only vendor we found that prices this openly, with a separate usage based "Stealth IP Traffic" charge for bot aware sites, "separate from the number of active URLs included in your Price2Spy plan". It publishes a live list of which sites need it, and concedes that some sites "manage to ban most of the locations used by our servers".

On the do it yourself side the same cost appears as residential proxy bandwidth. Apify publishes $8 per GB on Free and Starter, $7.5 on Scale and $7 on Business. What it does not publish, anywhere we could find, is how many megabytes an average page consumes, so the proxy half of a scraping bill cannot be computed in advance from Apify's own numbers. Treat any guide quoting a confident all in cost per thousand pages with suspicion, including this one: the compute figures above exclude proxy for that reason. Run a week against the real target sites first. changedetection.io bundles a real Chrome browser and European, USA and Tor proxies into its $8.99 plan, a cheap way to find out which competitors will fight you.

How to choose in 2026

  • Catalogue plus named competitors: buy per SKU with unlimited competitors. Pricefy and Prisync both work this way, and the model gets cheaper per data point every time you add a rival. Start on Pricefy's free tier of 50 SKUs to test matching quality before paying.
  • Fewer than a dozen pages: do not buy a price monitoring platform. A change detection tool at $8.99 to $35 a month tells you a page moved, which is often the whole job.
  • Data has to land in your own systems: scrape it. Compute is close to free at these volumes. What you really pay for is the parser, the product matching and someone to fix both when a retailer redesigns, which is exactly the work the SaaS tools charge for.
  • Never compare tiers until you have normalised the unit. Convert every quote into cost per product per day for your real catalogue shape. The ranking changes.

If the answer is the scraping route and you would rather not build it in house, this is the pipeline we build for clients: monitored pages feeding a clean product and price table, on a schedule, with alerts routed where your team already works. Our AI automation work covers the plumbing, and if you sell on Shopify, our Shopify app reviews page is the place to start on the store side. Start on Apify's free plan to test the volumes yourself: $5 of included usage scrapes several thousand pages and shows you your real numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Published self serve prices run from about $49 a month to $499 a month. Pricefy lists $0 for 50 SKUs, $49 for 100, $99 for 2,000, $189 for 15,000 and $499 for 25,000. Prisync lists $99, $199 and $399 a month for 100, 1,000 and 5,000 products on URL based monitoring, with higher ladders for its channel based and hybrid products. Enterprise vendors mostly do not publish prices; Intelligence Node is the exception and states a minimum project size of $5,000 a month on a one year term.

On raw compute, yes, by a wide margin. Apify publishes average consumption of 3,000 pages per compute unit for plain HTTP scraping and 300 pages per compute unit with a browser, at $0.2 per compute unit on its entry plans, so 75,000 page fetches a month is roughly $5 to $50 of compute. That excludes residential proxy, which Apify prices at $8 per GB but publishes no per page consumption for, and it excludes the engineering time to build and maintain the parser and the product matching. For most retailers the SaaS tools are cheaper once that time is counted.

A change detection tool such as changedetection.io or Visualping tells you that a page changed and shows you a diff. A price monitoring tool extracts the price as a structured field, matches it to your own product, and then reports, alerts and often reprices on it. If you only need to know that a rival moved, change detection at $8.99 to $35 a month is enough. If you need a price history per SKU across competitors, you need the second category.

It varies more than the marketing suggests. Prisync updates URL based products three times a day and channel based products once a day. Pricefy updates twice a day on every paid tier, including its $499 plan. Price2Spy offers up to eight checks a day on its Premium tier. Visualping advertises checks as frequent as every two minutes, but that is a per job ceiling rather than something you can sustain across a page list, because a single page at that rate consumes 720 checks a day against a monthly allowance of 10,000 on its $70 plan.

Because above roughly $5,000 a month the product is scoped rather than sold: the quote depends on SKU count, number of competitor sites, refresh frequency and which modules you take. Wiser has no pricing page, Minderest has none either, Competera and Dealavo route you to a quote, and Skuuudle openly subtitles its page "A pricing company with no pricing page?". Price2Spy removed a public ladder it used to publish. If a vendor will not quote without a call, assume you are in the enterprise market and budget accordingly.

It is the cost line nobody advertises. Price2Spy prices it openly as a separate usage based "Stealth IP Traffic" charge for bot aware sites, kept outside your URL allowance, and publishes which sites need it. On a do it yourself stack the equivalent is residential proxy bandwidth, which Apify sells at $8 per GB on its entry plans. Because no vendor publishes an average bandwidth per page, you cannot budget this in advance. Run a week against your real target sites before committing to an annual contract.
