Apollo's 2026 pricing runs on a credit-based model across four tiers, from a free plan to Organization. Understanding how credits actually work separates real value from hidden costs.

Understanding Apollo Credits Economics
This is where Apollo gets tricky. Credits are the currency, but different actions cost different amounts.
Email Address: 1 credit per contact
- Apollo's About Credits page says it never charges more than 1 credit per contact for an email, and only for addresses it can verify
- At annual prices a credit costs about 1.98 cents on Professional ($948 for 48,000 credits)
- Basic plan: about 1.96 cents a credit ($588 for 30,000), so an email costs about two cents on either plan
Email Sends: no credits
- Apollo's pricing FAQ says email campaigns are included on every account
- Free accounts can only connect Gmail mailboxes
- Free and Basic cap sending at 250 emails a day; Professional and Organization are unlimited
Email Sequences: Complex pricing
- Setting up automated sequences costs nothing
- But you're limited to Apollo's send limits
- Dependent on plan tier
Phone Numbers: 8 credits per number
- Mobile, direct and office numbers all cost the same, per Apollo's About Credits page
- About 16 cents a number at Basic or Professional annual rates
- Phone numbers and emails spend the same credits, so a calling-heavy month leaves fewer for emails
Enrichment: 1 to 9 credits per record
- Apollo's pricing page lists data enrichment at 1 to 8 credits, and its FAQ says up to 9 per record
- Waterfall enrichment across third-party vendors can cost far more; our is Apollo.io worth it breakdown has the ranges from Apollo's developer docs
Here's the math: the Professional plan grants 48,000 credits per year for $79/month, billed annually, about 4,000 credits/month on average. Reveal 4,000 emails in a single month and you have used a full month's average allotment in one campaign. Reveal 500 phone numbers instead and you have spent the same 4,000 credits on an eighth as many contacts.
What Apollo Doesn't Tell You
Apollo's pricing is built for contact sourcing, not cold email at scale.
If your workflow is:
- Find contacts and reveal their emails → 4,000 credits
- Validate emails → no separate Apollo charge (Apollo only bills for addresses it can verify; we still run an outside verifier)
- Send outreach → 0 credits (campaign sends are included)
- Track replies
...that's 4,000 credits, a small slice of the Professional plan's 48,000/year allotment. This workflow fits comfortably inside the $79/month tier.
Our clients who use Apollo typically use it for contact research, then export to their own email infrastructure. That's the honest use case.
Private Server Alternative: $489/year for 50 inboxes with Apollo contact data = $978 total first year. This gives you complete email control and no per-contact fees.
Apollo Alone: $79 × 12 = $948/year on the Professional plan, or $119 × 12 = $1,428 per seat per year on Organization, which needs at least three seats ($4,284). Both plans grant their credits upfront for the year, billed annually.
Apollo vs SmartLead Credit Pricing
SmartLead prices by sending volume, not per action:
- SmartLead: plans are sized by contacts stored and emails sent a month (its Pro tier lists 30,000 contacts and 90,000 email sends)
- Apollo Professional: $79/month (billed annually) for 48,000 credits a year, with no credit charge to send and no daily sending cap
If you're doing volume outreach across many inboxes, a dedicated sender like SmartLead is built for it. Apollo's credits pay for data, not for sends.
Apollo wins if you need verified B2B contact data and only run occasional campaigns.
The Verification Game
Apollo's big selling point is verification. They claim 95%+ accuracy on emails.
Real talk: Verification only matters if Apollo is also sending your emails. If you're exporting contacts to another tool (like Instantly or SmartLead), you're paying for verification you might not need.
Many of our clients skip Apollo's built-in warmup entirely and rely on warmup with their private server instead. That keeps warmup beyond the first mailbox off Apollo's credits.
Hidden Costs of Apollo Outreach
Apollo's native email sending has limitations:
Sender Reputation: Apollo sends through the mailbox you connect, so your own domain's reputation is on the line, and a dirty list burns it. Email warmup comes with the Basic plan and up, though Apollo's credit documentation lists warmup beyond your first mailbox among the things that use credits.
Tracking Limits: Apollo's tracking is campaign-level, not prospect-level. You don't get the granular data that third-party ESP tracking provides.
Sequence Limitations: Apollo sequences are basic. No conditional logic, no dynamic content based on behavior.
If you use Apollo for outreach instead of contact sourcing, you're basically paying $948+/year for a mediocre email tool.
ROI on Apollo Pricing
Let's assume you run a 5,000 contact campaign:
Apollo-Only Model:
- Professional plan: $79/month (billed annually)
- 5,000 email reveals: 5,000 credits
- Email validation: no separate Apollo charge
- Total credits used: 5,000 of your 48,000/year allotment
- Cost for one campaign: just the $79/month subscription, no overage
Apollo + Private Server Model:
- Apollo Professional: $79/month (billed annually)
- Private server: $40.75/month (amortized from $489/yr)
- Total: $119.75/month
- No credit overspend
- Full email control
For a single occasional campaign, Apollo's Professional plan alone is actually the cheaper option at $79/month. The private server model earns its keep once you're running full outbound infrastructure, unlimited sending volume across multiple inboxes with warmup, rather than paying per contact credit.
Apollo Pricing: Best Use Case
Apollo is best positioned as a contact database tool, not a complete cold email solution.
Use Apollo for:
- Researching verified B2B contacts
- Building prospect lists
- Email validation on cold lists
- Account-based marketing research
Don't use Apollo for:
- Your entire cold email operation
- High-volume outreach (use SmartLead or Instantly instead)
- Email warmup (unnecessary credits)
- Complex sequences (too basic)
How We Price Cold Email vs Apollo
At imiSofts, we offer a different model entirely. Our starter package is $888 total ($489 private server + $399 setup). This includes:
- 50 verified inboxes
- Full email control
- Unlimited sending
- Real warmup protocol
- Integration with Clay + n8n
Total annual cost: $978/year for full sending infrastructure, 50 inboxes, unlimited volume, versus Apollo Professional's $948/year for 48,000 contact credits. Different tools: Apollo sells contact data, we sell sending infrastructure. Most teams doing real cold email volume end up needing both.
You get email infrastructure, not a tool subscription you'll eventually outgrow.
Apollo Credit Economics: The Real Cost Per Lead
Apollo's pricing revolves around credits. Understanding credit economics is essential before choosing a plan.
Apollo no longer sells separate email and mobile credits. Every plan now grants each seat one allowance of credits (per year on annual billing), and the pricing page prices data out of it: an email costs 1 credit, a phone number costs 8 credits, and a data enrichment run uses up to 9 credits per record. The figures below are read off apollo.io/pricing on September 28, 2026 (annual billing); the per-credit and per-contact columns are our arithmetic on those numbers:
| Plan (annual billing) | Credits per seat per year | Price per seat per year | Cost per credit | Cost per email (1 credit) | Cost per phone number (8 credits) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 900, granted monthly | $0 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 |
| Basic ($49/mo) | 30,000, granted upfront | $588 | $0.0196 | ~$0.02 | ~$0.16 |
| Professional ($79/mo) | 48,000, granted upfront | $948 | $0.0198 | ~$0.02 | ~$0.16 |
| Organization ($119/mo, 3-seat minimum) | 72,000, granted upfront | $1,428 | $0.0198 | ~$0.02 | ~$0.16 |
The cost per credit is flat to within about 1.2 percent across the three paid tiers, so moving up a plan buys features and volume, not a cheaper credit. Email lookups are not unlimited on any plan: a Basic seat's 30,000 credits a year is 30,000 verified emails if you never reveal a phone number, and every phone number you do reveal costs the same as eight emails. Apollo is still far cheaper per contact than ZoomInfo ($15K+/year) or Cognism, but the cap is real and it is annual, so a heavy month borrows from the rest of the year.
Phone numbers matter if you're combining cold email with cold calling. At 8 credits each, a Basic seat that spends its whole allowance on phone numbers gets 3,750 a year, about 16 cents apiece, and no higher tier sells a cheaper phone number. If you only do email outreach and send through a separate tool, the Basic plan at $49/month gives you everything you need, and the free plan's 900 credits a year (75 a month) is enough to test the data before you pay. We list the free-tier limits we could verify, including three that are not printed on the plan card, in our Apollo free plan limits guide.
Apollo vs Competitors: Price Per Lead Comparison
We run Apollo alongside other tools and can compare real costs:
| Tool | Annual Cost | Leads Per Year | Cost Per Lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apollo Basic | $588/year | 30,000 credits (30,000 emails, or 3,750 phone numbers) | ~$0.02 |
| ZoomInfo | $15,000+/year | ~10,000 credits | ~$1.50 |
| Lusha Starter | $449/year | 4,800 credits (1 per email) | ~$0.09 |
| Cognism | Custom (~$15K+) | Custom credits | ~$1.00+ |
| RocketReach Pro | $829/year | 3,600 exports (one contact each) | ~$0.23 |
Apollo, Lusha and RocketReach figures read on each vendor's pricing page on September 28, 2026, annual billing. RocketReach meters exported contacts rather than email credits, and its Ultimate plan ($1,699 for 20,000 exports) works out to about 8.5 cents a contact. ZoomInfo and Cognism are sales-led, so their rows are commonly reported estimates, not published prices.
Among the tools in this table, Apollo is the cheapest per email address, and it's not close, which is why we recommend it as the default prospecting tool for imisofts clients. Dedicated email finders such as Snov.io and Hunter can undercut it at volume, as our email finder cost comparison shows.
The tradeoff is data accuracy. Apollo's email accuracy runs around 85-90% on our verification tests. ZoomInfo hits 92-95%. For most cold email campaigns, Apollo's accuracy is sufficient because we always run lists through a verification tool before sending. The 5-10% accuracy gap doesn't justify a cost per lead roughly 75 times higher on the estimates above.
What Apollo Plan Do We Recommend?
For most of our clients at imisofts, the Basic plan at $49/month is sufficient. Here's why:
- 30,000 credits a year covers a 30,000-contact email list, about 2,500 verified emails a month on average
- Phone numbers cost 8 credits each, so light calling fits inside the same allowance if you budget for it
- Sequence features aren't needed if you use Instantly or SmartLead for sending
- Saved search filters handle most ICP targeting needs
The Professional plan ($79/month) only makes sense if you need advanced reports, A/B testing within Apollo, a bigger annual allowance (48,000 credits), or more than 250 sends a day. Since we handle sequences and A/B testing through Instantly, there's no reason to pay for those features twice.
Pair Apollo Basic ($49/month) with our Starter infrastructure package ($489/year + $399 setup) and Instantly Growth ($30/month) for a complete cold email system at under $600 to start. See our packages.
